Filmstrip Heart Tattoo
This tattoo had been in the works for years. My idea for it came after years of wanting a graduation gift for myself. I was a film major at UC San Diego. The idea of having a film heart came from feeling an intrinsic connection and need to make films.
Originally the idea was to have a film reel instead of the heart and have a piece of film come off the reel and lead down my arm into a sleeve. I asked my artist to come up with a design for it. She then sent me this heart design and I was in love with it. We decided to add the Chaplin minutes before we started the tattoo.

I have been a tatto enthusiast for about for about five or six years now. I browsed through this entire site and almost every single tattoo I encountered I had seen before but this one stuck out as very original. It definately had deep sentimental value to the person who got it (she was a graduate of film school). For me tattoo’s serve two main functions: the first is as a form of art and the second is as a personal reminder, sentiment or value. I feel too many people get tattoos for purely aesthic reasons, which is their choice. But the reason this particular tattoo stood out to me was the attention to detail the artist took and how it serves the dual purpose of both art and sentimental value.
